Through this programme, YLF is working to educate the community about global warming, natural disasters and other
environmental problems and how they could be prevented.
Our students are taught to appreciate and protect nature. Such a practice helps prevent natural disasters
such as bushfires, drought and also property destruction caused by storm. Students are also encouraged to
plant trees in schools and in their various homes in the communities.
Students are also taught how they can protect the environment through ways such as avoidance of littering the environment with waste.
Experts from the environmental protection agency teach the students and our beneficiary communities to be aware of renewable and non-renewable resources
so that they know of the dangers that wasting non-renewable resources may bring.
Physically, we took active part in the Greening Ghana Initiative by going all over to plant trees where necessary
and we still ensure the survival of these trees planted.
We gave out five thousand cassia seedlings,
obtained from Greening Ghana Secretariat, to schools and other youth organizations to help ensure there is
a boost in the vegetation cover.
Plans are in the pipeline to give education on the need to control the importation of used machines, especially
petrol chemical machinery into the country to prevent emission of pollutants such as chlorofluorocarbons, carbon
monoxide, Sulphur dioxide, and other poisonous gases into the environment.
Slash and burn method of crop production is also advised against as well as galamsey or illegal open cast mining,
fishing with chemicals and burning of polythene materials in the open instead of recycling them are educated against.
Education is what the public actually needs to embark on environmental protection strategies. We urge all environmental
friendly organizations, volunteers and all concerned persons worldwide to come to help us educate the public in
order to make the Earth a forever life sustaining planet.
